Welcome to Peaceable Kingdom

Peaceable Kingdom is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization supported by business and community partners and concerned citizens in the Lehigh Valley. We provide care and shelter to animals that are lost, injured or abandoned. We offer no-kill solutions to the growing crisis of dog and cat overpopulation. Whether it's rescuing animals stranded by natural disaster, holding all-night adoption marathons or educating the public on animal welfare, Peaceable Kingdom is always in the forefront.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Peaceable Kingdom is funded by private donations and staffed by volunteers. We'd like to help every animal in need. Unfortunately, with our limited resources, it isn't possible. Every year, thousands of healthy companion animals are euthanized simply because no one will take them in. Most of these animals were once household pets. We believe they deserve better. If you share our belief, please explore this site and learn what you can do to make a difference.

Our Mission

  • To provide care, protection, and assistance to animals who are mistreated, injured, abandoned, or otherwise in need.
  • To minimize animal overpopulation through low-cost spay/neuter clinics.
  • To create community awareness and gain support of animal needs through educational efforts.

History and Accomplishments

Peaceable Kingdom came into being in 1998, operating through the efforts of dedicated volunteers who offered their personal residences to shelter and care for homeless animals. Founder Liz Jones organized the first large-scale public adoption days. For several years, Peaceable Kingdom focused its efforts on cats. In 2004, we began to offer services for dogs. We now hold weekly adoption days at area pet supply stores, as well as special adoption events at other locations. In 2005, we placed nearly 1500 animals in permanent homes.

Peaceable Kingdom has continued to expand its network of animal foster homes. In 2002, we opened Penny's Rainbow Clinic to treat sick, injured or malnourished animals and to provide temporary shelter for animals awaiting adoption. In 2005, Penny's Rainbow Clinic moved to a new, larger facility.

Three years ago, Peaceable Kingdom partnered with other animal welfare groups, veterinarians and concerned citizens to begin offering low cost spay/neuter services on a regular basis. The public response has been overwhelming. In 2005, more than 1000 animals were spayed or neutered at our clinics.

Future Plans

Peaceable Kingdom hopes to expand its efforts to improve the lives of homeless and needy animals. Through your funding and support, we can make these dreams a reality!

  • Ninth Life Home
When elderly pet owners die or enter long-term care facilities, their companion animals, who may be geriatric themselves, often become homeless. Peaceable Kingdom hopes to create the first facility in the Lehigh Valley that specializes in care of geriatric companion animals.
  • Respite Resort
This proposed facility would aid people who must part with their furry friends for an extended period, but will take them back at some point. Examples would include service people deployed overseas on temporary assignments; people who are relocating or seeking housing that will allow pets; or people who are temporarily incapacitated for medical reasons.
  • FIV/Leukemia Positive Home
Cats that test positive for feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) require safe facilities where they can enjoy life and receive proper care without danger of spreading their conditions to healthy animals.
  • Feral Farm
Cats born in the wild often live, breed and form colonies in places where they are unwanted. Feral cats are at constant risk of being tormented, killed or dying from exposure and disease. Peaceable Kingdom hopes to create an on-demand service to trap feral cats, spay or neuter them, test them for contagious conditions and relocate them to a safe indoor/outdoor location. Cats that show promise of adapting to human companionship could be socialized and put up for adoption.
  • Research Support
There is a pressing need for the development of a means of chemical sterilization for companion animals. This would be the quickest, cheapest and easiest means of helping to minimize the companion animal overpopulation. Peaceable Kingdom hopes to acquire funding and raise public awareness to assist researchers and veterinarians in this humanitarian endeavor.
