Foster Homes

Animals awaiting adoption usually do much better in a loving home environment. Foster care is especially beneficial for animals that need extra short-term or long-term care and attention. Peaceable Kingdom provides veterinary care and assistance with supplies if needed. It's a great opportunity for people who want to volunteer but aren't able to come to our facility in Whitehall.

By becoming a foster care site, you can help in many ways:

  • Prevent overcrowding at the shelter
  • Reduce the risk of contagious diseases
  • Give newborn animals a healthy start in life
  • Give sick or injured animals a comfortable environment for recuperation
  • Accustom unsocialized animals to life with human companions
  • Provide housebreaking and other essential training
  • Provide a peaceful respite for geriatric or chronically ill animals

Three easy steps to become a Peaceable Kingdom foster home:

1 Apply. To foster cats or kittens, call Maryann at 610-266-0589 or e-mail pklvcats@yahoo.com. To foster dogs or puppies, call Liz at (610) 360-7709 or e-mail pklvdogs@yahoo.com. You'll be interviewed and asked to complete a written application. Be sure to check local ordinances regarding the number of animals you may keep at your home.
2 Choose the type of animals you'd like to foster: adults, unsocialized or special needs animals, moms-to-be, moms with newborns or a litter of kittens or puppies. If you want to foster kittens or puppies, you must take an entire litter, or at least two individuals. Prior experience with the type of animal you are fostering is strongly recommended.
3 Enjoy your foster animals until they are ready to go to our adoption days. Kittens and puppies must be healthy and fully weaned. Animals recovering from illness or injury should be fully recuperated. Adult cats, with the exception of barn cats, should be litter-trained and able to be handled. Dogs do not have to be housebroken or leash-trained, but it's a plus.

Can't bear to part with a foster animal? No problem. Just call us to make adoption arrangements. Please note: by adopting, you assume full responsibility for all aspects of the animal's care. Peaceable Kingdom's services are no longer available, although some exceptions may be made for special needs animals.
